Who this guide is for

Section actions
  • Persons staying free of charge without invoice or lease on their behalf
  • Foreigners preparing an ANEF file, prefecture, bank, insurance or other process
  • Hosts who want to build a coherent and verifiable record

To be prepared in advance

Section actions
  • Certificate of honour dated and signed by the host
  • Readable copy of the host's identity document or residence permit
  • Proof of domicile accepted on behalf of the host
  • Identification of the host person if the application is made
  • Possible additional evidence of actual presence at the address

Step-by-step procedure

Section actions
  1. 1See the list of the procedure: accepted documents and their seniority vary between ANEF, ANTS, bank, CAF or other organizations.
  2. 2Have the certificate written and signed by the person legally occupying the dwelling. It must indicate the identity of the two persons, the full address and the start date of the free accommodation.
  3. 3Attach the host's identity and proof of identity to the host's name: energy or water bill, tax notice, release or housing document as accepted by the organization.
  4. 4Check the consistency of names, addresses and dates. If the host has just moved or the proof is too old, provide a more recent room or ask the organization for the accepted alternative.
  5. 5Scan each piece separately and legibly for a teleprocedure. Keep the originals and update the folder on a new application.

Common mistakes

Section actions
  • Attach the certificate without identity or proof of residence of the host
  • Use an address document on behalf of another person without explaining the hosting chain
  • Apply a fixed rule of 3 months everywhere while requirements vary
  • Complimentary accommodation and undeclared sub-lease
  • Consolidated accommodation certificate and reception certificate issued by the town hall
