Step-by-step procedure

- 1Choose the target degree: use France Competencies (francecompetences.fr) to find the diplomas corresponding to your experience. The diploma must be included in the National Professional Certification Register (NCP).
- 2Check the experience condition: at least 1 an (1 607 hours) continuous or equivalent activity, in direct connection with the content of the diploma. Experience can be in France or abroad, wage earner or volunteer.
- 3Apply for admissibility (Booklet 1) from the certifying body. This is the official verification that your experience corresponds to the degree. Exhibits: CV, attestations, evidence.
- 4In case of a positive answer, prepare the 2 Booklet — a detailed description of your experience and the skills related to the diploma. The most demanding part, over several months.
- 5Take the interview before the VAE jury: a jury of experts in the field evaluates your file and asks questions. It issues the total, partial (with conditions) or refuses diploma.
- 6Cost: the VAE is paid, about 500 to 2 500 € depending on the organization and the accompaniment. However, there are subsidies: CPF (Training Personnel Account), France Travail (AIF), regional co-financing.
- 7Time limits: the entire procedure lasts 6 to 18 months. Accompaniment (accompaniment body) increases the chances of success and can be financed via the CPF.
