Step-by-step procedure

  1. 1Check eligibility: balance of 1–11 points (from 1, not zero — otherwise allowed cancelled; not 12 — otherwise nothing to recover). On telepoints.permisdedriver.gouv.fr.
  2. 2Find an approved centre: list on security-road.gouv.fr (centre map). Car schools CER, AAA, Norisko, ECC — main networks. Or online search "internship recovery points [your city]".
  3. 3Register online or by phone. Specify dates — 2 consecutive days. Average cost: 250 € (training costs not reimbursed by insurance or the State).
  4. 4Volunteer placement vs. mandatory: volunteer — on your initiative, recovery of 4 points. Mandatory — in case of letter 48M (withdrawal ≥3 points, extension of probation period, under 4 months). Identical recovery (4 points), but required by law.
  5. 5Training content: 16 hours on 2 days. Themes: accidents and statistics, road safety, alcohol/drugs, eco-driving, first aid. No examination — compulsory attendance at all sessions.
  6. 6Certification: At the end, you receive a certificate. The center notifies the ANTS, points are recovered automatically under 4–10 days.
  7. 7Accumulation of internships: maximum 1 internship/year (calendar). Several possibilities over years, but the balance never exceeds 12 (or 6 for probation).
  8. 8Online internship: from 2022 — some centres offer the full online internship (visio). Tariff 250 €, the same 16 hours. Check that the centre is approved for the distanciel.
  9. 9Free of charge: the internship is not reimbursed by the insurance (this is not medical treatment). However, for some categories (RPC, acting)—employer assistance is possible.
  10. 10After the internship: check the telepoints under 2 weeks — you must have recovered 4 points. Otherwise — contact the centre for follow-up of the attestation.

Common mistakes

  • Do not check the balance before — an internship doesn't make sense if already 12 or 0.
  • Do 2 internships the same year — the second is not counted.
  • Missing part of the course — no certification, points not recovered.
  • Believing that the internship = knowledge test — not only presence.
  • Do not choose an approved centre — invalid certificate.
