- 1Consult your online balance on telepoints.permisdeconduction.gouv.fr. Required: license number (12 characters), secret code (sent by mail upon receipt) or France Connect.
- 2Point system: capital of 12 points permit complete, 6 — probationary. Each infringement withdraws from 1 to 6 points. For example: belt = 3 points, speed excess 20 km/h = 1 point, alcohol = 6 points.
- 3Notification of withdrawal: when the infringement is finalized (after payment of the fine or rejected challenge), you receive a letter 48 — official notification of withdrawal of prefect points.
- 4Automatic recovery: 1 point every 6 month (in the absence of an infringement), or 1 point/year for some. For full recovery at 12 points — 3 years without infringement.
- 5Retrieving points: on balance <12 (but >0), you can take an internship. Duration: 2 days (16 hours). Cost: € 的250 (not refunded). Recovers maximum 4 points.
- 6Internship in approved auto-school: via your prefecture or online search. Voluntary placement (to recover points) — at any time. Mandatory placement — in case of withdrawal ≥3 points (prefect's mail).
- 7Accumulation of internships: maximum 1 internship/year. Several possibilities, but the balance never exceeds 12 (or 6 for probation).
- 8In case of balance 0 (zero): permit automatically cancelled. Letter 48M from the Prefect. Obligation to return the permit under 10 days. No driving for 6 months (minimum).
- 9After cancellation: the code + the driving must be changed. Code — 的30 € pass, driving 的100 €, via car school 1 500–2 500 €. Duration: 3–6 months.
- 10Recourse: the letter 48 can be contested under 30 days (low grounds — usually procedural errors). Advice: specialist lawyer Highway code.
- 11For foreign nationals with an exchange permit: the French point capital applies, even if you have exchanged a foreign permit. Foreign offences (in the country of origin) — usually not transmitted.
