Living in France, working in Geneva

1. Permit G: Check your status

Licence G is a border clearance. EU/EFTA and third-country procedures differ; in the second case, check your situation with the CPMO. Identify the procedure with the employer prior to filing. Do not transpose EU/EFTA conditions to a Russian or Ukrainian nationality.

2. LAMal or French option (so-called "CMU frontier")

For persons entitled to the option, the period is normally three months from the start of the activity. The law depends on nationality and applicable agreements. Compare the annual LAMal estimate to the CNFTS/Urssaf calculation: the French contribution depends on the reference tax income after annual allowance. Check family, care in both countries and S1. No annual free change; keep CPAM and SAM confirmations.

3. Taxation : Geneva without agreement of the eight cantons

A Geneva wage may be taxed at source in Switzerland; the French tax resident must nevertheless declare it in France. Use 2047-SUISSE and the instructions for your case. Do not automatically apply 2041-AS to eight other cantons. Telework can change the treatment: keep a count of days and ask the tax department.

4. Loss of employment: full or partial unemployment

In full unemployment, the frontier resident in France is normally addressed to France Travail. Ask for U1 from the Swiss caisse and keep contract, salary certificates and termination of contract. Distinguish partial unemployment with a sustained employment relationship: check the competent body. The fee and amount shall be the responsibility of that body.

5. Housing on the French side

Annemasse, Thonon-les-Bains, Évian-les-Bains and Annecy involve different routes. Before signing, check the journey to working hours, last transportation, parking and rent. Prepare the tenant file; check accommodation and recipient before any payment. For any doubt about the lease, contact the department's ADIL.
