Step-by-step procedure

  1. 1See your family quotient (QF) on caf.fr — key parameter of the rate. For a couple with 2 children and 2 000 €/month — QF - 450 €.
  2. 2For kindergarten/elementary: rate fixed by the municipality. Register in town hall or online on the city hall's website. Price: from €0.50 (for the most modest) to €8–10 (for families with high QF).
  3. 3For the college: rate of the Departmental Council. Depending on the family quotient — from €0.50 to €6–7/meal. Registration via the school (college), payment via the region/department portal.
  4. 4For the high school: rate of the Regional Council. Often one-off price 4–7 €/meal, without QF scale. Enrolment via high school.
  5. 5Progressive scale: the higher the QF, the more expensive the meal. The grids are published annually on the town hall/department/region site.
  6. 6Payment: monthly or quarterly according to actual consumption (card/code count). In case of absence — meal not billed, to be reported in advance (usually 8–15 days).
  7. 7Social rate (TSA) : for families with low QF (often <500 €). Automatically applied to registration, on presentation of notice CAF.

Common mistakes

  • Do not provide QF CAF — loss of social rate, full rate payment.
  • Do not report an absence — you pay for an unconsumed meal.
  • Believe that the diet menu is automatic: you have to deposit an IAP for allergies, otherwise the canteen is not held.
  • Allowing the unpaid to accumulate — suspension of the canteen after several defects, the right to school remains acquired.
  • Ignore that the regional rate (lycée) may disregard QF — no discount.
