Who this guide is for
Section actions
- You if you have 16–29 years and are looking for an apprenticeship
- You if you are an adult and are seeking a professionalization contract
- You if you're a stranger and fear that your status will affect alternation
To be prepared in advance
Section actions
- CV and cover letter in French format
- A diploma/training project and a list of CFAs in the region
- For non-EU citizens: proof of the right to work (title or authorisation)
Step-by-step procedure
Section actions
- 1Choose training and CFA in advance — without that, companies will not study you. Define the level of diploma (CAP, Bac pro, BTS, Baccalaureate pro, Master) and list of schools in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
- 2Make up your list of companies: Student, good alternation.pole-emploi.fr, LinkedIn, Indeed, and business sites directly. Sign up for alternance forums (Learning Fair, Trade Shows).
- 3Adapt CV and letter: highlight motivation, flexibility, taste to learn. For non-EUs, indicate title/authorisation from the CV — this removes the main fear of the employer.
- 4Apply in bulk: 30 to 50 applications per cycle is the standard. Keep a table (business, date, status). Don't wait for each one to answer.
- 5Prepare the interviews: find out about the company, be prepared to explain why the alternation and why them. Bring CV, letter and CFA certificate.
- 6Consider professionalization as an alternative to learning (for 26+ or adults) — different salary and age conditions.
- 7Sign the contract (CERFA for apprenticeship) after agreement. The alternation and salary then begin.
- 8Calendar: Search from January to July for the following year. After July, the offer was reduced but seats remained in September.
Common mistakes
Section actions
- Applying little and waiting for "the right" — it takes dozens.
- Hide the non-EU status — better to clarify and propose the solution (contract authorisation).
- Do not prepare interview: companies value motivation, not just diploma.
- Confounding learning and professionalisation — different conditions and public.
- Start late (summer) — the best places leave in spring.
