Step-by-step procedure
Section actions
- 1For a principal residence, a clause prohibiting a pet in general is in principle unenforceable. The tenant remains responsible for damage and troubles in the neighbourhood.
- 2Check exceptions: the lease may prohibit a first-class dog; a seasonal rental may refuse animals.
- 3Before a SNCF trip, see the conditions in effect for the species, size, container, leash, muzzle and ticket. Prices and dimensions can change.
- 4For a flight, contact the company before the final purchase: cash allowed, cabin weight, hold, cash model, sanitary documents and quotas differ according to the carrier and destination.
- 5For local and public transportation, see the regulations. Guide and support dogs shall be provided with specific access rules, subject to applicable supporting documentation.
Common mistakes
Section actions
- Affirm that no prohibition is ever possible in a lease
- Use an old SNCF tariff or weight limit
- Arrive at the airport without reservation confirmed for the animal
- Neglect liability for nuisances, bites or damage
