  • You if you are looking for a dentist and want to understand the sectors
  • You if you have a toothache and want a quick appointment

To be prepared in advance

  • Vital card and mutual card
  • Prescription (not always necessary for routine care)
  • A list of dentists sector 1 (Ameli directory)

Step-by-step procedure

Section actions
  1. 1Choose a dentist sector 1: search the Ameli directory (ameli.fr), filter "sector 1". Tariff agreed — e.g. consultation ~25 € (reimbursement 70 %, mutual for the rest).
  2. 22 Sector: The dentist can apply overtakings — more expensive, but sometimes appointment faster. For contracted care, the refund is the same, but the excesses are at your expense (the mutual can cover).
  3. 3Make an appointment (Doctolib or live). Dental Emergencies — Dental Emergencies or SOS Dentaire in major cities.
  4. 4Routine care: descaling, plumbing, channel treatment, extraction — all agreed. Refund 70 % CPAM + mutual.
  5. 5Prosthetics (crowns, bridges, removable prosthetics): from 2020, 100 % Health — basket of free models. Choose Class A to pay 0.
  6. 6Orthodontics: refund per semester (TOU) up to 16 years; for adults — usually not supported by CPAM (mutual alone).
  7. 7Use the Vital Card and the Mutual Card — paying third party when available.
  8. 8Renewal: Descaling supported once a year (or more by prescription). Radiography — refund.

Common mistakes

Section actions
  • Go to 2 without checking overruns — surprise invoices.
  • Do not choose 100 models % Health for prostheses — pay the rest.
  • Do not use the Ameli directory to find area 1.
  • Believe adult orthodontics reimbursed by the CPAM. No — mutual alone.
  • Tarder to treat — complications and more expensive.
