Who this guide is for
Section actions
- You if you have a savings of up to € 12,000 and want a non-taxable investment
- You if you are a French tax resident and at least 18 years of age
- If you are looking for an alternative to Book A to save in the short term
To be prepared in advance
Section actions
- Identification document (French or European)
- Proof of domicile (less than 3 months)
- RIB of an account in the same bank for transfers (or simultaneous opening of a current account)
Step-by-step procedure
Section actions
- 1Check eligibility: 18 years old, tax shelter in France. One LDDS per person, two per couple (one per spouse).
- 2Open the LDDS in any French bank — either on site or online (most online banks). Present your ID, the proof of residence, sign the account agreement. Free opening.
- 3Feed the account — without minimum, ceiling €12 000 (plus interest capitalized beyond). Beyond the ceiling, the bank refuses the transfer to the LDDS.
- 4Interest is calculated by 15 and capitalized on December 31. State rate — 3 % since the 1st February 2025 (until the 31 July 2025). Check revisions on bank-france.fr every 6 month.
- 5Withdrawal and payment at any time — without loss of interest (unlike term deposit). Funds available within 1-2 working days by transfer or counter.
- 6Non-taxable interest: no income tax (article 157 II 6° CGI), no social contributions (CSG/CRDS). No declaration to complete.
- 7The bank finances companies in the social and solidarity economy through the Finansol fund — it is the "solidary" component of the LDDS; transparent for you, without action on your part.
- 8In case of moving out of France (becoming non-resident) — the LDDS remains open, but payments are prohibited; interest continues to run. Upon return to France, payments become possible again.
Common mistakes
Section actions
- Open several LDDS in different banks — forbidden; bank will ask to close duplicates.
- Believing that we can pay more than € 12,000 — the ceiling is absolute, the bank rejects the surplus.
- Open an LDDS for a minor child — only Book A and SARA exist for minors.
- Compare the LDDS rate (3%) to the Young Booklet (4% up to 25 years old) — the Young Booklet is capped at €1,600 and reserved for under 25.
- Do not update proof of domicile or RIB when moving — the bank can freeze the account.
